At a late-night news conference Thursday, police in Midland City, Alabama, said their priority is saving the kindergartner held hostage by a suspected killer. But they offered little new information about the suspect holding a five-year-old in an underground bunker.
Neighbors say the suspect is Jimmy Lee Dykes.
Police can speak to him through a pipe leading to the bunker, but they haven't been able to talk him in to coming out, or surrendering his hostage.
Dykes kidnapped the 5-year-old boy off a school bus on Tuesday after reportedly shooting and killing the bus driver.
We are learning a little more about the bunker where this is all happening. Neighbors say it's behind a trailer and storage shed on Dykes' property. No one knows what supplies he might have down there, but police say he's been known to stay down there for as long as eight days.
Schools in the area remain closed.
