Is ‘Movie 43’ the worst film ever made?

NEED TO KNOW
  • Sketch-comedy film features dozens of A-listers, including Hugh Jackman, Kate Winslet, Naomi Watts and Halle Berry
  • Movie managed to rake in just $5 million its opening weekend after film critics eviscerated it

Despite an impressive roster of A-list movie stars, "Movie 43" managed to completely bomb at the box office, bringing in just $5 million its opening weekend -- which may have been due to its terrible reviews.

The Peter Farrelly-helmed flick was ravaged by critics far and wide, bringing out invective not seen since the days of "Gigli."

The film includes numerous comedy sketches featuring A-list stars like Hugh Jackman, Kate Winslet, Naomi Watts, Halle Berry, Richard Gere, Emma Stone, Dennis Quaid, Elizabeth Banks and many, many more.

Saddled with a measly 5% "fresh" rating on rottentomatoes.com, the movie brought out the best (worst?) in a number of critics:

"How many directors does it take to screw in a star-studded piece of aggressive stupidity and call it a movie? An even dozen, and there is no punch line." -- The Los Angeles Times

"It's as if 'Movie 43' was itself a feature-length f***-you to Hollywood, a movie made simply to show how bad a movie a studio could be induced to make and actors could be persuaded to act in." -- Richard Brody, The New Yorker

"'Movie 43' is the most star-studded collection of jokes involving menstruation, flatulence, incest, bestiality, Snooki ... ever assembled, but the stars don’t elevate the material -- they just descend to its level." -- Nathan Rabin, A.V Club

"As the ads for 'Movie 43' promised (threatened?), you can’t un-see this thing, so please: Stay away. Even if you might think that sitting through “Movie 43” would be an adventure along the lines of experiencing “Showgirls” or “Howard the Duck,” you’ll be filled with regret 5 minutes into this atrocity. There’s camp-fun bad and interestingly horrible bad, and then there’s just awful. 'Movie 43' is the 'Citizen Kane' of awful." --Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun-Times

"If you mashed-up the worst parts of the infamous 'Howard the Duck,’' 'Gigli,’' 'Ishtar’' and every other awful movie I’ve seen since I started reviewing professionally in 1981, it wouldn’t begin to approach the sheer soul-sucking badness of the cringe-inducing “Movie 43,’’ which has been dumped on an unsuspecting public without advance press screenings." -- Lou Lumenick, New York Post

Makes you want to run out and see it, huh?
