Vanessa Brooks was charged with vehicle burglary

A St. Petersburg, Florida woman was charged with vehicle burglary, auto theft, and leaving the scene of crash after police say she stole a police cruiser, HLN affiliate WTSP reported.

When authorities found the car, police say Vanessa Brooks left the transmission in gear before running from the vehicle, and the car backed itself into a tree, WTSP reported.
