Officials in Chicago say a shipment of 18 human heads that were en route from Rome, Italy, to a research facility in the United States was held up by customs at O'Hare airport, according to HLN affiliate WGN.
The station reports that the body parts had been embalmed and placed in coolers and were shipped before Christmas. They had been held at the airport because their final destination was not clearly indicated on the customs paperwork. No one has come forward to claim the heads and the FBI, homeland security and customs officials are investigating.
If the heads are not claimed, they will eventually be buried in Cook County, Illinois.
