Portland police say Caleb Grotberg, 32, used his dreadlocks to choke his girlfriend early Monday morning, according to a police press release.
Officials say they learned of the alleged attack after responding to a report of a domestic assault at a residence at 2:28 a.m. yesterday. When police arrived, they spoke with an adult female who told officers that her “boyfriend assaulted her and choked her with his dread-locked hair,” the press release states.
Grotberg was located during a canvas of the neighborhood, and he was taken into custody after the victim provided police with a detailed physical description of her boyfriend.
The press release states the victim was transported to a Portland hospital for treatment of numerous, non-life threatening injuries.
Grotberg was charged with second-degree kidnapping, second-degree attempted assault, fourth-degree assault, menacing, and strangulation.
He was booked into the Multnomah County Jail, and is scheduled to be arraigned today.
HLN attempted to locate an attorney representing Grotberg for a comment, but the Multnomah Public Defender’s Office says he has not been assigned one yet.
