The University of Alabama added a new page to their storied football history Monday night as they defeated the University of Notre Dame to defend their BCS national title.
The game was almost over as soon as it began. It was supposed to be an epic battle in the trenches, but what it turned out to be was an epic domination by the Crimson Tide.
Notre Dame came as the No. 1 team in the land, but before they knew it they were down 35-0 and the game could have pretty much been called then and there.
Alabama would end up crushing the Fighting Irish 42-14, and now many are calling the team a dynasty.
Alabama overpowered The Irish in every way possible. Quarterback AJ McCarron and the Alabama offense were too much for the Notre Dame defense, who had come into the game considered one of the best in the nation. The Crimson Tide scored touchdowns on its first three possessions and McCarron would end the game with four touchdown passes, leading Alabama to a dominating third title in four years.
The biggest hit that McCarron took all night probably came from one of his own teammate. Late in the game, and with the victory pretty much in hand, McCarron and center Barrett Jones had a miscommunication and McCarron gave Jones an earful. But Jones was not going to sit back and take it on national television. He shoved his roommate as if to say, "Look buddy, you may be the quarterback, but I'm a senior." In the end it would be hugs and smiles for both players.
If McCarron was the star on the field, his girlfriend Katherine Webb was the star on TV and on social media. Webb was on ESPN almost as much as her star quarterback boyfriend, and by the end of the night she surpassed him in the only stat than really matters -- Twitter followers! The current Miss Alabama went from just 2300 to more than 100,000 -- surpassing McCarron. And, get this -- Webb is a grad of Alabama's bitter in-state rival: Auburn.
