The amino acids in the vegetable appear to guard liver cells from toxins. The Korean study's lead author wrote in a press release that "cellular toxicities were significantly alleviated in response to treatment with the extracts of asparagus leaves and shoots... These results provide evidence of how the biological functions of asparagus can help alleviate alcohol hangover and protect liver cells."
There are other foods too which have been singled out for their ability to battle hangovers. Eggs, bananas and oats are all among the items which (sound like a delicious breakfast!) can also make your New Year's Day a little more pleasant.
