A Florida woman was arrested Sunday after authorities say she fled a deputy attempting to make a traffic stop, reaching speeds of up to 120 miles per hour before officers forced her off the road.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, 46-year-old Laura Rager drove recklessly and dangerously for several miles as she tried to evade an officer who stopped her for speeding early Sunday morning. During the pursuit, she allegedly crossed white and yellow lines on the highway and forced other cars off the road.
A sheriff’s office press release stated that Rager made a U-turn when she saw that deputies were setting up a spike strip to puncture her tires, gave a pursuing officer the middle finger and drove in the other direction. Rager’s car was eventually stopped by another spike strip, but authorities allege she got out and ran into a wooded area where deputies caught up with her and used a Taser to subdue her.
According to the release, Rager “smelled strongly of alcohol” when she was taken into custody and had prescription medications in her car. She had allegedly urinated and defecated on herself and yelled at deputies, “Why don’t you just shoot me, get it over with.”
Rager was booked on numerous charges including DUI (third violation) and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
