Heavy-footed drivers passing through a school zone in Marathon Key, Florida, got a smelly surprise Monday afternoon in the form of an onion served up by Dr. Seuss character the Grinch, affiliate WPLG reports.
Most of the offenders weren't complaining, though, as they could just as easily have received a ticket for the infraction from Monroe Country Sheriff's Deputy Lou Caputo, who was donning the costume.
Caputo, who told the station he has been dressing up as the character almost every holiday season since seeing Jim Carrey as the too-small-hearted menace on the big screen in 2000, passed out onions to around 10 drivers who were going less than five miles per hour over the posted speed limit.
He said he gives people the option to take either the vegetable or a speeding ticket, and that nine out of 10 take the onion.
Maybe the other one out of 10 had dates that night?
