Michael Dunn was only facing a second-degree murder charge in the death of 17-year-old Jordan Davis, but that charged was upgraded Thursday, reports HLN affiliate WJXT.

Dunn's attorney says his client opened fire in self-defense.

Dunn is also facing three attempted first-degree murder charges for the other passengers in the vehicle that survived.

Dunn is scheduled to be arraigned on his new charges Monday. He is being held without bail in a Duval County, Florida, jail.
