If you haven't gotten a flu shot yet, you might want to get it soon.

Health experts say flu season is here early -- and it could be a bad one.

Flu season typically doesn't peak until February, but Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas have already reported cases.

It's not too late to get the shot, but the CDC says do it now!

People seem to be getting a strain of flu called H3N2. The good news is this year's vaccine is very effective against it, according to Dr. Thomas Frieden, Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Common symptoms of the flu:

  • Fever
  • Body aches
  • Cough or sore throat
  • Chills
  • Fatigue

More than 36,000 people die from the flu every year in the United States.
