The civil defamation lawsuit against Casey Anthony won’t happen until she’s exhausted her criminal appeals.
Last year, Anthony was acquitted of murder in her daughter’s death, but she was convicted on four counts of lying to police during the investigation. She’s appealing those convictions.
Meanwhile, Zenaida Gonzalez is suing Anthony for defamation, claiming she was harassed and threatened after Anthony came up with a fictitious nanny named Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez, also known as "Zanny the Nanny." Anthony accused the fictitious nanny of kidnapping her daughter, Caylee.
The defamation trial was set to begin January 2 and a Florida appeals court in Daytona Beach, Florida, scheduled Anthony’s appeal for January 8.
On Friday, Judge Lisa Munyon agreed with Gonzalez’s attorneys that the defamation trial should be moved to a later date. A hearing will be scheduled early next year to determine when the trial will begin.
