How do you combat one fan’s Texas-sized love for her Dallas Cowboys? With a double dose of “Dirty Bird” pride, of course! This week’s Chick Fight features a D-town diva who once proudly told an opposing fan during a round of trash talk to “Get off her ovaries!” She’s got more than enough attitude to take on a pair of Hotlanta twins who know a thing or two about getting feisty for their Falcons. Their teams face off this Sunday in a game that could solidify the Falcons as the team to beat in the NFL. Before we breakdown the matchup, let's meet these sassy Southern belles.
Team Cowboys: Shelby Kelly (Fort Worth, Texas)
Years as a Fan: As far back as my memory serves but I remember first professing my love for the Cowboys in the '80s. It was like '85, I think -- I was 14 -- Chicago Bears were doing the Super Bowl Shuffle…
Craziest thing she’s done to support the team: Made a huge push to get as many online friends as we could to come spend the weekend hangin' out with us to celebrate the first home game at Cowboys Stadium -- and we did it BIG!! By the end of the weekend, we had traveled and convoyed all over the city, met and got signatures from over 40 current & former Dallas Cowboys players. Then we threw a huge tailgate party that was so big, it had to be divided into three locations!
Weirdest superstitions? I must be in my seat one hour before kickoff. I must dress head-to-toe in Cowboys gear -- from my Spirit Star Hat to the official Cowboys Socks.
Why she loves the Cowboys so much? I have always had an odd fascination with Texas, Texas History and Dallas. I saw the Cowboys and that Star and that was all she wrote!
Team she hates the most? Typical rival teams and the Steelers.
Team Falcons: Margaret and Marshell Thornton (Atlanta, Georgia)
Years as a fan: Since elementary school.
Craziest things they’ve done to support the team? Margaret: Painted my face red and black and danced on stage in a pregame contest.
What are their superstitions? We never miss watching a game together, whether it's on TV or at the Georgia Dome. It feels like it’s bad luck if the other one isn’t watching. Also we have to have on Falcons gear.
Why they love the Falcons so much: Because we grew up watching with our dad. He was happy to have daughters that watched the sport and taught us everything! Plus, we’re from Atlanta so we have to love the home team!
Team they hate the most? The Saints.
Game day rituals? Margaret: Changing my Facebook profile picture and updating a “Good Morning Fans” status.
The key to the Atlanta Falcons’ successful 7-0 start is that this team never gives up. They make big plays down the stretch and have made a habit out of last-second victories. The Dallas Cowboys have made a habit out of doing just the opposite. In fact, they should rename themselves the “Chokeboys” and draw a hand around the throat of that giant star in the middle of their field. They’ve got the weapons, but you never know if and when they’ll decide to use them or how they’ll find a way to use those weapons against themselves. With that said, they’re coming off a tough division loss and could face an overconfident Falcons squad. Sounds like the perfect recipe for an upset.
Chicks in the Huddle’s prediction: Cowboys 28, Falcons 24
