Hurricane Sandy ripped through the Northeast on Monday with ferocious force, killing dozens and causing untold amounts of damage -- hitting New Jersey especially hard.
Now, the cast of MTV's "Jersey Shore" may be reuniting to help rebuild the area that's made them famous.
According to RadarOnline.com, a show insider reveals that the cast -- which will not be coming back to the shore for the latest season of the wildly popular show-- will be getting together for an even better reason: To assist in rebuilding the areas devastated by the hurricane.
The website reports that "even though clean-up hasn't begun yet in Seaside Heights because of the extensive damage caused by Hurricane Sandy, executives at MTV are discussing bringing the cast of the 'Jersey Shore' back together to film a special."
The source continued, saying, "The honchos at the network think it would be a tremendous boost for Seaside Heights as the town begins to rebuild to have the kids be a part of it."
Online petitions on Facebook and Twitter fans have urged the cast to donate to Sandy relief efforts, with at least one castmember -- Snooki -- revealing that she already has.
Other castmembers, including JWowwand Sammi, have vowed to do all they can to help in the relief efforts, posting pictures of the destruction and tweeting links to ways fans can donate to the cause. The entire cast released statements to MTV News saying that they were "devastated" to see the wreckage of their hometown.
Vinny Guadagnino summarized the tragedy and its effect on the entire cast: "Over the last few years, it feels like Seaside Heights has become my second home," he explained in a statement.
"My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who was affected by this disaster in Seaside and all across the Northeast. I'm here to support in any way I can."
