Don Wiberg admits he can’t run, jump or shoot, but that didn’t stop the 76-year-old from trying to live out his hoop dreams.
Wiberg, a teacher and researcher at the University of California-Santa Cruz, was among dozens of people who tried out for the Santa Cruz Warriors, the developmental league affiliate of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors.
“I’m a decent passer, and I’ll get in there and mix it up,” Wiberg said.
“The D-League is the best stepping stone to the NBA, so this is all about chances and trying to make dreams come true,” said Santa Cruz Warriors general manager Kirk Lacob.
Wiberg ended up not making the team, but he did achieve one thing.
“I’m 76 years old, and this is the only thing left to do on my bucket list -- to try out for the Santa Cruz Warriors,” he said.
