A North Carolina woman is accused of violating a state law by giving her 11-year-old daughter a tattoo.
Havelock police say Odessa Jean Clay, 30, allegedly used her own tools to ink a small, heart-shaped tattoo near the girl’s right shoulder.
WCTI reported that Clay said the girl wanted it, and she thought it was legal to give a minor a tattoo with a parent’s permission.
“She asked me to do it,” Clay reportedly told the station.
North Carolina law prohibits tattooing anyone under 18 years old. Clay’s next court date is set for November 15, according to court records.
