Harvey Updyke, the man charged with poisoning landmark trees at Auburn University's Toomer's Corner in 2010, was charged with a felony count of making terroristic threats last week.
The charge apparently stems from an incident in which Updyke tried to return a lawnmower to a Lowe's home improvement store in Hammond, Louisiana, on September 18. He allegedly made threats to the staff in the process.
Updyke, a huge fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide, figures prominently in the ESPN special "Roll Tide/War Eagle," which explores the bitter rivalry between the two SEC teams. He is still awaiting trial for treating the beloved 130-year-old trees with a potent herbicide.
