Olympic gold medalist Shaun White, 26, was charged with vandalism and public intoxication after authorities say he pulled a fire alarm at a Nashville hotel causing the evacuation of all guests, according to a police press release.
White reportedly attempted to flee the hotel in a cab but a citizen prevented the cab from leaving, police say. A citizen told authorities he chased White until White turned and ran into him causing White to fall backwards and strike his head against a fence.
Responding officers reported that the 26-year-old “appeared to be extremely intoxicated and smelled strongly of alcohol," according to a police press release.
White was released from jail on Monday evening and is free on his own recognizance.
White posted this apology on his Facebook page:
"I want to apologize for the unwise choices I made over the weekend and for any inconvenience it caused my family, friends, business partners, the hotel and their guests. I was celebrating a happy occasion with a ton of family and friends and got carried away. I'm truly sorry for my poor behavior." said White.
