Atlanta Falcons running back Michael Turner was arrested on a DUI charge early Tuesday, hours after being cheered in a nationally televised game.
Falcons fans were in a celebratory mood – and maybe Turner was too -- after Atlanta beat the Peyton Manning-led Denver Broncos on “Monday Night Football.”
Turner, known as "The Burner" for his downhill speed on the field, was pulled over at 4:06 a.m., according to the Gwinnett County Sherriff’s Department.
He was charged with speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol. The arresting officer said Turner was going 97 mph in a 65 mph zone.
“We are aware of the situation involving Michael and are in the process of gathering more information. Because this is now a legal matter, the club will have no further comment at this time,” the Falcons said in a statement.
He bonded out of jail – total cost: $2,179 -- about 7 a.m.
The night was not a total loss for Turner. Despite being held to a paltry 42 yards on 17 carries, Turner did score a touchdown, worth its weight in gold in football fantasy leagues.
