Editor’s Note: All this week, HLN is helping you and your family get back to school! Reed Alexander, best known for his role on iCarly, is joining Evening Express Tuesday at 5:45pm ET with some healthy recipe ideas that you should try with your kids!
You may know him better as “Nevel Papperman” if your kids are big fans of the Nickelodeon show iCarly. Actor Reed Alexander says he’s a major foodie who loves cooking.
A few months ago, he decided it was time to lose a little weight so he could feel better, look better and hopefully avoid some of the health issues he saw his family facing. But when he went searching the web for resources, he realized there wasn’t a lot out there targeted at kids. So that’s why he created kewlbites.com, a place for him to share “bites” of healthy lifestyle info that he’s been compiling.
Check out the recipes below for a few new dishes to incorporate into your family’s menu this week! You can also check out kewlbites.com for more recipes and information.
Breakfast options:
The American Breakfast Slider -- Throwing some eggs whites in the microwave makes this recipe super quick! Add those to a bun with a slice of cheese and tomato and you've got breakfast!
Kewl Belgian Waffles -- What kid doesn't love waffles?! This might be a great one for cooking up on the weekends, when you have some extra time.
Lunch options:
Kewl Chicken Salad -- Reed says this is one of his favorite recipes! He calls it a classic that's "lightened up, while its flavor has heightened up."
Kewl Quinoa -- If you've never tried quinoa before, then give this recipe a shot! Leftovers are great for storing in the refrigerator.
Dinner options:
Grilled Chicken Skewers -- The picture of this one makes us drool! Take the family outside and get the kids unplugged from their electronics while throwing these on the grill.
Turkey Meatballs -- This recipe makes 12 meatballs and is a great way to get your kids' hands dirty in the kitchen!
Snacks:
Kewl Snack Packs -- Reed says these are "perfect when you need a kick-into-gear pick-me-up or a locker-standby treat to fuel you between classes!"
Kewl Krunch Bars -- These are great to throw in your kids' lunch bags (or even in your purse!)
