McSteamy checks out! Eric Dane leaving 'Grey's'

McSteamy is hanging up his scrubs for good at Seattle Grace Hospital.

ABC confirmed to HLN that actor Eric Dane, who plays plastic surgeon Mark Sloan, is leaving after six years starring for on "Grey's Anatomy." But don't cry over McSteamy just yet, Dane will be back in the upcoming season 9 for a series of episodes to close out his character's storyline.

"Grey's" creator Shonda Rimes told TV Line that "after much consideration and conversations, he and I have decided that this is the right time for his storyline to end. We’re a big family here at 'Grey's' with a long history together and Eric will always remain an important part of our family."

In the finale of "Grey's" eighth season, Dane's character was badly injured in a plane crash and heartbroken over the passing of his love Dr. Lexi Grey.
