Former NFL quarterback Brett Favre is returning to the gridiron... as an assistant high school football coach.
The Lamar, Mississippi, Board of Education approved the hiring Monday of Favre as an assistant football coach at Oak Grove High School, according to HLN affiliate WDAM.
Head coach Nevil Barr told the Hattiesburg American that Favre's exact duties have not yet been defined, but "he'll definitely help us on offense, and probably call the plays."
The three-time MVP will not receive a salary as an assistant coach. Last year, Favre was a volunteer assistant for the team.
Favre is familiar with the Oak Grove football program as he worked out at the high school stadium as a member of the Minnesota Vikings. Favre retired from the NFL in 2010 after 19 years in the league. He won a Super Bowl title in 1996 as a member of the Green Bay Packers.
Oak Grove finished 7-4 last season, missing the playoffs for the first time in 10 years.
