A massive search is underway for two missing Iowa cousins who vanished while riding their bikes near Meyers Lake in Evansdale, Iowa, on Friday afternoon.
Police say 10-year-old Lyric Cook and her 8-year-old cousin Elizabeth Collins were last seen by their grandmother as they were leaving for an afternoon bike ride.
“They asked me to go for a short bike ride, and I said go ahead… they never came back,” Wylma Cook, the girls’ grandmother told KGAN.
Shortly after the girls were last seen, investigators discovered their bikes near the lake. Collins’ purse and cell phone were found on the other side of a fence about 20 feet from where their bikes were located.
An extensive search of Meyers Lake over the weekend turned up no sign of the missing girls, authorities said.
“It’s like they vanished,” Richard Abben of the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office told KWWL.
Elizabeth Collins is 4’1” tall, weighs 80 lbs, with sandy hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a white shirt, shorts and black tennis shoes or high tops.
Lyric Cook is 4’11” tall, weighs 145 lbs, with brown chin-length hair, blue eyes, tanned skin, and a mole on the back of her neck the size of a dime. She was last seen wearing a light green shirt, shorts, and black flip flops that form a Sesame Street character when put together.
Anyone with information regarding their whereabouts is urged to contact the Evansdale Police Department at 319-232-6682 or the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office at 319-291-2512.
