A 29-year-old mother was charged with two counts of first degree murder for the death of her two young children in a horrifying incident that occurred last Thursday.

The New York Post reports sources told them Lissette Bamenga fed her children juice spiked with a de-icer, and then sealed the apartment’s windows with plastic before turning on the kitchen stove gas burners.

Sources allegedly told The New York Post that Bamenga believed her husband had gotten another woman pregnant, so she allegedly killed their children to punish him.

Bamenga allegedly slit her wrists in an attempt to commit suicide but she survived, according to reports from The New York Post.

In an exclusive interview with HLN’s Nancy Grace, Bamenga’s neighbor, Gwen Richardson, said around 8 p.m. that night she thought she smelled “people cooking on the grill.”

“Around 11 o’clock, the authorities started knocking on doors and when we opened the door, the stench of the gas filled my apartment,” Richardson said. “It was burning my eyes. It was choking me. It was so strong.”

“These are metal doors. A spark could have been set off that killed all the authorities. That killed everybody on the ninth floor. She really put us all in jeopardy,” Richardson told HLN’s Nancy Grace.

HLN reached out to Bamenga’s brother who declined to comment on the case.

The Bronx District Attorney’s office told HLN that Bamenga “has not been arraigned, so we cannot comment on this case at this time.”

Bamenga has not yet been assigned an attorney, the Bronx Public Defender’s Office told HLN.

The New York Post reports authorities said Bamenga’s two children were pronounced dead at the scene.
