It’s just a pint of beer, abandoned, sitting on a damp napkin at a bar in Texas. There’s nothing special about it. Yet, it brought a waitress to tears because of the note sitting next to it.
The beer was meant for Lt. J.G. Francis Toner, who was killed in action in Afghanistan. A fellow sailor had poured it as a tribute.
At the end of the night, waitress Hannah Hobbs had no choice but to finally pour it out; she waited as long as she could. And before she did, she snapped a picture so she could preserve the tribute forever. When she posted the image to her personal Facebook page, she had no idea it would soon go viral. The picture has had over 2 million likes and almost 175,000 shares!
It inspired Bennigan’s to launch a social media campaign on their Facebook page called “Wall of Heroes,” where other people can post similar tributes. Bennigan’s will donate $1 to Operation Homefront for every picture posted.
The restaurant has also launched a new incentive program that waves the fee for all qualified and honorably discharged veterans who want to open a franchise.
