Update: Judge says man did not father 30 kids

A judge tells HLN that previous reports of the man with 30 kids requesting child support help are not true.

This week national and local media outlets have been reporting that Tennessee resident Desmond Hatchett had 30 kids and requested the court to reduce his child support payments. The judge handling the custody cases, Stan Briggs, tells HLN that Hatchett has 24 legal children, and that there are no pending hearings about child support payments at this time. The reason? He’s been incarcerated since December 2009 — and doesn’t get out until 2014.

The cases are not proceeding at this time because he is incarcerated,” Briggs says. “We are not enforcing any child support while he is incarcerated. Once he is released, then we will set the child support and enforce the child support. I have had to incarcerate him in the past for non-payment.”
