Paralyzed woman races marathon with bionic suit!

It took her 16 days to complete the marathon and she won’t even get a medal for it, but that doesn’t matter to Claire Lomas. The 32-year-old mom is paralyzed from the chest down and walked the 26.2-mile course with the help of a special bionic suit, crossing the finish line in tears.

"There were times when I questioned whether I would make it when I was training,” Lomas said, according to the Mother Nature Network.

But she took it one step at a time, walking two miles a day and had her husband, 13-month-old daughter and parents cheering by her side.

"Once I started, I just took each day as it came and every step got me a step closer,” she said.

Since Lomas couldn’t complete the race in a single day, she won’t show up in the results or be given a medal. Race organizers will award her a special trophy instead, and several other runners have also given their medals to Lomas.

The bionic suit she wore is called a ReWalk and uses motion sensors and an on-board computer system to help people with lower-limb paralysis stand, walk and even climb stairs. The suit costs about $70,000 and was recently featured on an episode of "Glee".

Lomas was paralyzed five years ago during a horseback riding accident. She is now a jewelry designer who has raised more than $138,000 for a charity that funds paralysis research.
