Is he nuts? Fearless? A little bit of both?
Nik Wallenda has set the date for a high-wire journey across Niagara Falls: June 15.
The 1,800-foot walk will take him about 30 to 40 minutes. But if the weather is nice, he says he might spend more time on the wire.
“When I was signing those agreements with them, I actually started to tear up a little bit,” says the seventh generation tightrope walker. “I pinch myself all the time because it doesn’t seem like reality… This is something that people will talk about for generations to come.”
Wallenda will likely wear a wetsuit specially designed for the elements, according to WIVB; he normally wears jeans and a t-shirt. His mother will hand-craft his special shoes.
“I’ve done walks higher, I’ve done walks longer, I’ve done walks in the rain that were longer and higher but none of them will compare to this,” says Wallenda. “This is the walk of my lifetime.”
