The biggest media market in the nation better get ready for an outbreak of Tebowmania, because Tim Tebow is headed to the New York Jets, according to the franchise’s official Twitter account.
“Jets have just announced they have agreed on a trade with Denver Broncos for QB Tim Tebow,” @NYJets tweeted.
Now that it’s officially Tebow Time in the Big Apple, here's hoping the former Broncos quarterback looks good in green.
There had been speculation about where Tebow would end up following Peyton Manning’s move to the Broncos. Talking heads suggested the father of an Internet meme could end up some place in Florida, where he got his start as a college-football phenom.
The decision proves to be a quick pick up for Tebow, who was ousted from the Broncos’ starting lineup when Manning became a free agent. Manning’s official announcement came yesterday. But in the battle for headline supremacy, Tebow is taking the lead with his move to the Jets.
The hope is that Tebow will help heal a divided Jets locker room and aid the team’s wildcat offense, according to ESPNNewYork’s Rich Cimini.
And while critics have questioned Tebow’s abilities, we must remember one very famous Jets QB who also generated a lot of criticism: Joe Namath went on to guarantee a Super Bowl victory.
For now, Tebow’s Twitter account is suspiciously silent. His last tweet was on March 11.
The real question about Tebow’s trade is: Can one city sustain Tebow Time AND Jeremy Lin puns? We're thinking The City That Never Sleeps is probably up for it.
