Marvette Washington and her brother Prentice are lucky to be alive.
On Saturday, as the siblings were loading groceries into Marvette's car at a Wal Mart in Cedar Hill, Texas, a man snatched her purse, jumped into the car, and began to drive off -- with Prentice and his dog Butch still in the passenger's seat, according to CBS DFW.
"I grabbed his arm," she said, "and I told him, 'Please don't take my brother. My brother has Down Syndrome. Just let him out, let him out'."
She clung to the man, crying, but as the car dragged her she eventually had to let go. A few minutes later, the suspect pushed a terrified Prentice out of the car into the road.
Although police eventually apprehended the suspect, the Washingtons are still missing one crucial thing. Butch, Prentice's three-year-old Schnauzer/Yorkie mix, had been in the car with the family, and now he was nowhere to be found. "They found our car and they found my purse, but they did not find our dog," Marvette says.
Marvette says Prentice and Butch are all the family she has, and Butch is especially dear to her brother. Until the dog is returned, Marvette fears their little household will be incomplete. "This is all I have, this is the last of my family," she says.
There is one bit of luck in the situation: Butch has been outfitted with a micro-chip, which will identify him if he is found. Anyone who finds the dog is asked to bring him to a local shelter so he can be reunited with the small family that misses him so dearly.
