Hey look! Conan O'Brien is back on network TV!
For 3.5 seconds!
The late night host made the briefest of sneaky cameos last night on CBS' 'How I Met Your Mother,' blending into the background remarkably well for a 6' 4" redhead. Who, you know, is also super famous.
I'm a fan of both Conan and 'HIMYM' (the admittedly awkward acronym the show is known by among the 'Met' set) and still had no clue The Ginja Ninja had crashed the fictional MacLaren's Pub until sightings that sounded similar to what you might read about Bigfoot started popping-up on Twitter.
"Uh. Was that Conan O'Brien in the background on #himym?"
"Either I'm seeing things or Conan had a very stealthy cameo on #HIMYM just now."
"CONAN O'BRIEN CAMEO on #HIMYM. That was the absolute best. It's like Where's Waldo for a 7 foot ginger."
The micro-cameo came in a bar scene where Neil Patrick Harris' character Barney bolts from his booth to the door in search of a sex tape involving two of his pals. On his way out he leaps a table and blows past some patrons. And by 'some patrons' we mean Conan O'Brien and... oh who knows, someone else.
Before the episode aired, Neil Patrick Harris provided a bit of a tease tweeting, "Watch the new episode of HIMYM tonight and try to spot the awesomest of dudes randomly hanging out at MacLaren's. #dontblink"
Conan landed the spot by winning an auction last year for a guest role on the show. It was supposed to be a speaking part, but show co-creator Carter Bays told New York Magazine's Vulture blog "We heard back: 'He just wants to be an extra.' And we realized this was really the funniest version [of a cameo]."
