There’s a hilarious new meme flooding Facebook newsfeeds everywhere. You know the one -- a series of six photographs depicting how various people view our jobs and hobbies.
The meme spans a wide range of professions and personal interests -- teachers, fashion bloggers, entrepreneurs, wedding photographers, engineers, role-playing gamers. Really, the options are endless. The photographs portray how you, your friends or your mom view your current choice of employment. The hilarity comes from the little bit of reality in each of the interpretations. After all, behind every joke is a grain of truth, right?
Take journalists, for example. In the photo above, you can see that our friends think we spend all day blogging in a coffee shop. Our moms think we’re reporting the most important world events live during prime time. Our society thinks we’re just nosy privacy invaders. Our bosses think we take our jobs very seriously (natch). We think we’re all perfectly coiffed Robert Redfords conducting life-saving investigations.
And what we really do is spend countless hours on the phone and online, Googling things and writing the most fascinating stories (about memes).
Is there some verité to these interpretations? We’ll let you decide.
Dying to make your own meme? It’s easy -- here’s a cheat sheet to guide you along. It’s not too late to get started either. As the Washington Post points out, “If ‘[Stuff] People Say’ is any indication, [this meme] is not going away anytime soon.”
