Man suffers heart attack at Heart Attack Grill

NEED TO KNOW
  • Man goes into cardiac arrest at unfortunately-named grill
  • The Heart Attack Grill is known for shocking, fatty food items

It sounds like a horrible, horrible joke. A man eating at the Heart Attack Grill in Las Vegas actually had a heart attack -- while eating a 6,000-calorie "Triple Bypass Burger."

Oh, and the motto of restaurant? Taste Worth Dying For.

The unidentified man in his 40’s was taken out of the restaurant on a stretcher as confused patrons took pictures, thinking it was all a publicity stunt. After all, for a chain that has its waitresses dress up like nurses and routinely runs promotions like providing free food to obese customers, it doesn’t seem entirely out of the question.

However, founder Jon Basso insists the situation is completely serious. “The gentleman could barely talk. He was sweating, suffering. I actually felt horrible for him,” he said. “Even with our own morbid sense of humor, we would never pull a stunt like that.”

Morbid stunts describe the atmosphere of the Heart Attack Grill franchise pretty well, since it is known for serving up bodacious, calorie-laden monstrosities like "Flatliner Fries" and the offending "Triple Bypass Burger," which boasts three patties crowned with 12 bacon slices, red onion, tomato, and globs of melted cheese and “special sauce.”

When Basso founded the restaurant in 2005, he called the menu “so bad for you, it’s shocking.

After this incident, it looks like the tongue-in-cheek restaurant may have to eat its words.
