It's not like the former Queen of Daytime TV to beg, but Oprah Winfrey has had to make amends after tweeting out an odd plea during the Grammys on Sunday.
"Every 1 who can please turn to OWN especially if u have a Neilsen [sic] box," read the tweet, which has since been taken down.
It's no secret her Oprah Winfrey Network hasn't been performing as expected, but the casual solicitation for Nielsen viewers had some people calling her "desperate" and "unethical."
Winfrey issued a statement yesterday apologizing for the tweet, saying "I removed the tweet at the request of Nielsen. I intended no harm and apologize for the reference," implying her tweet was more offhand than a sign of desperation.
However, Nielsen doesn't seem to think it was a joke. The company issued a statement saying, "In accordance with our policies and procedures, Nielsen is reviewing this incident with out clients...We take any violation of our policy seriously and will work with clients to resolve the situation."
The statement also cited a specific category of violation, titled "Falsified Reporting or Attempts to Coerce Nielsen Panel Members."
