Madonna's stalker caught!

NEED TO KNOW
  • Convicted stalker Robert Dewey Hoskins walked away from mental hospital
  • Police warned public not to engage him on their own

A man convicted of stalking music star Madonna was apprehended by police Friday in Long Beach, California, days after walking away from a mental hospital, HLN has learned.

Robert Dewey Hoskins, who had been missing since February 3, was taken into police custody hours after the Los Angeles Police Department warned the public of his disappearance.

“Hoskins is highly psychotic when not taking his medication and has very violent tendencies,” Los Angeles police said in a statement obtained by HLN. "The public is being warned to notify police immediately if he is found, and not to engage him on their own."

Hoskins served 10 years in prison after being convicted of stalking the Material Girl in California in the 1990s. He threatened to cut her from "ear to ear" if she spurned his marriage offer, HLN affiliate KCAL reported.

The two have come face to face only once, in a 1996 court proceeding in which Madonna expressed dismay at being called to testify.

"I feel incredibly disturbed," she said in media reports at the time, "that the man who threatened my life is sitting across the room from me, and we have somehow made his fantasies come true: I'm sitting in front of him and that's what he wants."

Madonna recently announced a world tour on the heels of her performance at the Super Bowl.
