It wasn’t just any confetti that rained on the heads of the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants and their fans Tuesday: It was reportedly confidential confetti.
Some of the unshredded paper dropped from nearly 20 office buildings in Lower Manhattan Tuesday during the Giants’ ticker tape parade reportedly contained personal information like Social Security numbers and medical records. More than 41 tons of shredded paper was used during the parade.
“Like this building over here, the top part comes over the side,” says Louis, a fan of the G-Men who came out for the parade. “They were ripping paper out of books.”
The report comes from the show Inside Edition, which says some of the papers even included information about a 54-year-old woman’s mammogram.
But despite the fears these days of identity theft, one New Yorker told radio station 1010 WINS he wasn’t too concerned.
“I don’t get the impression that people are actually going to pick up these pieces of paper and cause something like identity theft or something along those lines,” he says.
