Will Jodi Arias face the death penalty?

When Travis Alexander's friends found him dead in his bathroom, his throat was slit from ear to ear, he’d been shot in the face, and he had 27 stab wounds, police said.

His ex-girlfriend, Jodi Arias, is on trial for his murder, and on Thursday a judge will decide whether she will face the death penalty when proceedings begin October 17.

Also Thursday, the judge is expected to address all pending pre-trial motions from both sides, including the defense’s motion to dismiss the death penalty from the case.

The defense is arguing that Arias should not face death because she did not plan to kill Alexander. Instead, her attorneys are arguing, she killed him in self-defense because he got violent with her.
