Attention Target shoppers, no Jason Wu for you!

NEED TO KNOW
  • Jason Wu for Target collection hit stores Sunday
  • You won't believe your eyes when you see two re-sellers raid the inventory of a Miami-area store

If you’re into Target, and I mean really into Target, you probably know designer Jason Wu’s capsule collection went on sale this weekend. Pretty chiffon dresses! Twee little skirts! Lace … things! It was magical and awesome, but the fun is over for now.

Like it goes with most of Target’s affordable-yet-covetable designer collabs, most everything is sold out on their website. And although they have a helpful little find-it-in-a-store tool, don’t bother depressing yourself. Unless you live near one of those fully-stocked Target meccas in the middle of nowhere, your nearest store sold out in hours.

Of course, demand for Wu’s line was relatively tame compared to the Missoni madness that crashed the Target website and had customers scrambling for sweaters, teacups, rain boots and knit items of all sorts when the high-end brand released their Target offering last year. There was even a bike -- a bike! -- for sale! Oh Target, why do you do this to us?

One could argue the thrill of the chase is a major part of these fun little collections. It’s somewhat of a fashion feather in your cap when a friend eyes your $40 dress with envy and a little bit of admiration. Will most people know it’s a Jason Wu? No, but your clever thrifty self will.

Unfortunately, there’s a byproduct to the Target capsule model as well. Since the collections are cheap and limited-edition, some enterprising shoppers snap up all the merchandise for themselves to sell later on eBay. It worked for Missoni, so why not Jason Wu? This was the scene that unfolded at a Miami-area Target yesterday morning:

If you’ve ever allowed yourself to get excited about fun, affordable fashion, or stood in line to take advantage of a great deal, these two people unloading what looks like the store’s entire inventory should really get your anger gland throbbing. As of now, there are thousands of listings on eBay for Wu’s Target collection.

Should you give in to the online hoarders? Absolutely not. According to multiple tweets from Target, the collection should be re-stocked later in the week.

And maybe it would be good to institute a per-customer limit. People love the designer collections, but it’s no fun if you have to fight the eBay poachers over a little silk blouse.
