Amazon planning to open first retail store?

NEED TO KNOW
  • Amazon is reportedly opening Seattle retail location in the next few months
  • Blog says store will sell higher-end items like Kindles

Amazon is reportedly planning to open up a new store "offline" in it's hometown of Seattle. The blog at Good E-Reader cities "sources close to the situation" and says the retail location will roll out in the next few months.

Reportedly, they're focusing on their higher-end items such as the Kindle Fire and will also stock accessories like USB adapters and cases. We imagine it'll be something like the Apple Store for Kindles.

The number of people who own tablet computers and e-readers nearly doubled over the holiday season. Still, only about 19% of adults own one, so maybe Amazon's hoping to get a retail location up and running before another lucrative holiday season.

Amazon has also been expanding its publishing arm in recent months and, according to Good E-Reader, you can expect to see some of those books in the store. Customers will be able to buy physical copies as well as sample e-versions over Wi-Fi.

If the test location does well, then who knows... maybe you could see an Amazon store opening up near you in the future!

Would you go in and shop? Or do you prefer the convenience of buying online?
