What city do you think of when you hear the word “romantic?” New York City, perhaps, with its bright lights and big dreams? Or maybe a quaint, sleepy village on the coast of Northern California?
(Insert buzzer noise here)
According to Redbox, a movie and game rental company, the most romantic city in America is… La Crosse, Wisconsin! Never heard of it? You're probably not alone. It's home just a hair over 50,000 people.
So how did La Crosse score such an amorous title (just a couple of weeks before Valentine’s Day, no less)? On their blog, Redbox says their results are “based on the number of romantic comedies rented in 2011.”
Now it’s starting to make sense. Redbox is the company that makes automated DVD rental kiosks. And judging by the top 10 cities on the list, it looks renting (romantic) movies is the thing to do in the Midwest:
As you can see, La Crosse isn’t the only Wisconsin city to place in the top 10. There are a total of four Badger State bergs on the list! Maybe it's the cold winters?
So where’s the least romantic city in the U.S., then? According to Redbox, it's Laredo, Texas. Interestingly enough, the Lone Star State also had four cities on the list -- of the top 10 least romantic cities list, that is.
In their survey, Redbox also found that a large majority of Americans consider watching a film at home a good date night: a whopping 73 percent said so. And 61 percent of Americans say they will be watching a movie at home this Valentine’s Day.
Will you be curling up with a romantic comedy on V-Day this year?
