“X Factor” just had a major shakeup: HLN can confirm that Paula Abdul will not be back for the second season!
Paula confirmed the news herself on Tuesday. "Yes, it's true; I won't be returning to 'The X Factor' next season,” she said in a statement given to HLN. She went on to say the decision was purely a business one. “Simon and I, along with Fox and Fremantle, have been communicating about this for a while now, and I have absolute understanding of the situation. Simon is, and will remain a dear friend of mine,” says Paula.
How does good friend and former “Idol” judge Simon Cowell feel about having to give Paula the ax? Simon released a statement shortly after the news broke, saying, “You do develop friendships with the people you work with and Paula, in particular, is a very close friend and I expect to be working with her on another project in the near future.”
The news of Paula’s exit comes on the heels of Fox announcing “X Factor” host Steve Jones and judge Nicole Scherzinger would not be returning to the show. Their departure didn't come as a complete surprise; the exits had been buzzed about for some time.
So, who is left on the show? Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid. Simon runs the show and is considered the main draw, so he won’t be going anywhere. Reid's record label signs the contestants, so draw your own conclusions ...
