Usually, when you think of moonshine, you think of sipping homespun rocket fuel out of a mason jar in backwoods Appalachia. Now you can officially call those the good ol' days, because moonshine has crossed the line into fancy hooch territory and it's never coming back.
A Connecticut distillery is providing bushels of their booze for this year's Grammy swag bags. Onyx Moonshine was the first moonshine to be made legally in the state, and in a statement the founders call the product "authentic moonshine with an ultra-premium twist" -- the ultra-premium twist probably being that it is not made in a bathtub.
Onyx Moonshine also made it into the Country Music Awards gift bags in November, so it's already kind of a big deal. Moonshine, like absinthe, has gained traction in hipper circles over the past few years for its subversive history, "rule-breaking" image and resonance with mixology trends.
Either way, it looks like white lightning is striking everywhere these days. And it feels so, so good.
