Psychologist sentenced for faking rape

A former prison psychologist was sentenced Wednesday to five years of probation for faking a rape in an effort to convince her husband to move to a safer neighborhood, according to KTLX.

Laurie Martinez pleaded no contest to giving law enforcement false information when she told them she was a victim of a violent rape attack.

Martinez, 36, staged an elaborate robbery and fake rape, police said. She allegedly split her own lip with a pin, scraped her knuckles with sandpaper and even convinced her friend to punch her in face. Her story started to unravel after she went to the hospital and an effort was made to gather possible evidence.

Police spent hundreds of hours investigating her claims of robbery and rape.
