Cardiac combo: Card fuses fast food, video games

A new tech startup is vowing to destroy our waistlines, introducing a seamless way to combine fast food and video games: rewarding consumption of one, with virtual credits toward the other.

Congratulations America, our undying ingenuity will now guarantee we will never again have a resting heart rate below 120 beats per minute.

At least, that's one way to view new rewards card company Plink. They are marketing their product a bit differently, as you may suspect.

According to their website, "Plink is the first-ever Facebook Credits-based loyalty program that rewards members with Facebook Credits for dining and shopping at their favorite restaurants and offline retailers."

So you can buy an order of Taco Bell's volcano nachos, then build a hospital in CityVille.

Right now, Plink has deals with a number of major chains including Taco Bell, 7-Eleven, Quiznos and Dunkin' Donuts. The startup, as well as those retailers, believe customers will seize on the incentive opportunity to fill-up both their Facebook Credit accounts and their stomachs in a single shot.

"Facebook Credits is the missing ingredient that’s been needed to connect social media to offline sales," writes Plink co-founder Peter Vogel.

Plink users can just sync up their rewards card to their Facebook account, then register a credit or debit card. And as far as building a better customer loyalty system in the digital and social age, the concept is so far drawing high marks.

"It has the beneficiary trifecta," writes TechCruch. "Where restaurants drive sales, users get rewards without having to change their behavior, and Plink takes a cut."

So everyone wins. Except, perhaps, your belly -- and maybe your couch cushions.
