Woe is Kyle Williams. After botching two punt returns, the first of which forced the game between the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Giants into overtime, the second of which gave the Giants an opportunity to clinch the win, Williams was subjected to a level of blistering ire on social media that would lead one to believe he had gathered up all the kittens in the world and set them on fire.
Let's also not forget Ravens kicker Billy Cundiff, who hooked a field goal in the last few seconds of the game against the Patriots that could have tied the game and sent it into overtime. He got a small piece of the rage pie, as well.
Most of these tiny tirades are too foul to print, but here are a few:
BREAKING NEWS: Raven's kicker Billy Cundiff attempted to commit suicide but the bullet missed wide left - @northphilliest
BreakingNews: Death warrant for Billy Cundiff, wanted Dead or alive... - @IAMDJBUNK
And perhaps, the most foul, which was re-tweeted hundreds of times over (mostly out of disbelief):
@KyleWilliams_10 I hope you, youre wife, kids and family die, you deserve it - @javpasquel
There were bubbles of class in the fetid pool of insults, though. San Francisco teammates showed their support:
@KyleWilliams_10 keep ur head up. U r my brother and teammate N I would put u back there all over again. We all lost this game tonight not u - @PatrickWillis52 (Patrick Willis)
@KyleWilliams_10 hold your head high bro. You had an amazing season. I'm proud to be your teammate - @ASnyds68 (Adam Snyder)
Neither players have tweeted a response (Billy Cundiff doesn't appear to have a Twitter account at all), but at first there also seemed to be some confusion over which Kyle Williams to which the vile insults should be directed. Was it @KyleWillams? @Kyle_Williams? @Kyle_Williams10?
All wrong. He's @KyleWilliams_10. Come on, folks, if you're going to needlessly threaten a complete stranger on the Internet, at least use the right name.
