'The Artist' is Golden Globes' big winner

The 69th Annual Golden Globes Awards proved to have a favorite of the night, and that honor went to the “"The Artist."”

The black-and-white silent film took home the trophies for Best Actor in the category for Jean Dujardin, Best Original Score and Best Picture Musical or Comedy. We give the Best Scene Stealer award to the film’'s doggie-star Uggie for joining the film’'s cast on stage while they accepted the award for Best Picture.
"“The Descendants"” took home the night’'s final award for Best Picture in the Drama category, but that's not only win for the film.” George Clooney beat out his good friend Brad Pitt and took home the award for Best Actor.
Best TV series went to ABC’'s “"Modern Family."” Sofia Vergara joined the show'’s co-creator Steve Levitan on stage for a one-of-a-kind acceptance speech. Sofia accepted the award in Spanish while Steve took care of the “"translation."” It just reminded us why this show keeps its audience cracking up.
The Showtime drama “"Homeland”" was TV's big winner, taking the award for Best TV Drama and Best Actress in a TV Drama. This makes it three-for-three for Claire Danes and the Golden Globes. She took home trophies in previous years for “"My So-Called Life"” and "“Temple Grandin.
Of course, it wouldn'’t be an awards show wrap-up without talking about the host. Ricky Gervais took on the duty for the third time. Gervais did exactly as planned. He took jabs at many of the celebrities in the room and was even able to work in a dig at Kim Kardashian. What Ricky might not have been ready for was getting a little dose of his own medicine when Madonna, who took home the awards for Best Song, decided to retaliate. It made for one of the night’'s more memorable moments.
Tune in Monday at 10am ET for complete coverage of the Golden Globes during a special edition of Showbiz Tonight on HLN.
