Russell Brand has filed for divorce from wife Katy Perry after just more than a year of marriage.
The documents, filed today in L.A., cite irreconcilable differences.
Brand released a statement to HLN saying, “Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends."
Murmurs of a split rose when the quirky stars were spotted spending the holidays apart, in completely different places. Brand traipsed around his native England, while Perry celebrated some 7,000 miles away in Hawaii. Neither of them was wearing a wedding ring.
The couple wed in an elaborate ceremony at an Indian tiger sanctuary in October 2010.

Of course, everyone had their own opinion of the split on Twitter:
“Sad, but not entirely surprised - Russell Brand files for divorce from Katy Perry. They even survived him tweeting a pic of her w/no makeup” - Christi Lardy
“Russell Brand and Katy Perry are getting a divorce. How about saving your shock for when a celebrity couple actually stays together?” - writer Caprice Crane
“How dare Russell Brand and Katy Perry file for divorce on Dec. 30 AFTER all the Top 10 Break Ups of 2011 lists have already been published?!” - comedienne Kate Spencer
And in a moment of clairvoyance, Donald Trump himself weighed in on the relationship, a full day before the divorce plans were announced:
