Singer Sinead O’Connor has made an impressive showing at the marriage derby, clocking in a mere 16 days. It’s no Britney Spears, but it’s still faster than most. (Take that, Kim Kardashian!)
After marrying boyfriend Barry Herridge on December 8, Sinead announced on her website that she and Herridge ended their marriage on Christmas Eve.
Her reasons? She cited “behaviour of certain people in my husband’s life,” “rushing into getting married” and something about her adventures with weed. O’Connor is known for her rambling web posts, so in order to wrap your head around it you’ll have to read the whole thing here.
However, it’s clear she thinks certain folks in Herridge’s life didn’t approve of the union. Could it be because of O’Connor’s candid, uncomfortable blog posts this August that described, in graphic detail, her desperate search for a mate? Of the tamer qualifications, the lucky man (or woman) had to be “no younger than 44” and could not be named Brian or Nigel. (Though that particular post has vanished from her blog, similarly saucy screeds remain.)
Whatever the reason, she still calls her soon-to-be ex a “wonderful man” and says the two “parted amicably.” This was O’Connor’s fourth marriage.
