Lawyer: Sandusky teaching hygiene in shower

NEED TO KNOW

  • Jerry Sandusky's attorney says his client could have been teaching kids how to use soap

An attorney who's just joined Jerry Sandusky's legal team is offering a new possible explanation for one of the alleged horrific incidents of sexual violence against a child outlined in a grand jury presentment in the case.

In an interview with ABC 27 News, defense attorney Karl Rominger said Sandusky could have been taking a shower with a 10-year-old boy because the child lacked basic personal hygiene skills.

"People who work with troubled youth will tell you that there are a lot of juvenile delinquents or people who are dependent who have to be taught basic life skills like how to put soap on their body," Rominger said.

A witness who was a graduate student in 2002 testified that he saw Sandusky naked in a locker room shower at the university.

Rominger also said Sandusky's inability to articulate himself well is the reason his "client doesn't come across well" and the reason the case is "not a fair fight."
