Rick Perry's new ad currently has about a 2% approval rating
The presidential candidate's camp is divided over the ad
By now, you’ve probably already seen Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry’s latest campaign ad. You know, the one where he openly criticizes gays serving in the military and vows to end Obama’s “war on religion.” Oh, you haven’t seen it? Well, feast your eyes:
Apparently, the ad has done more harm than good for Perry and his camp. This isn’t your typical tactical tiff either. The Huffington Post reports that the ad was made despite the objection of Perry’s top pollster, Tony Fabrizio, who is openly gay and called the ad “nuts.”
And Fabrizio isn’t the only one outraged. Let’s let the stats speak for themselves:
So far, Perry’s ad has had 3,222,763 views on YouTube. It received 11,426 likes and 464,092 dislikes, which comes out to about a 2% approval rating.
The ad has inspired a slew of parodies by everyone from the guys at Funny or Die to video games bloggers.
And of course, we can’t ignore the outpouring of response on Twitter:
“How dare Rick Perry attack our gay troops! Those who are fighting for his freedom!” Roseanne Barr posted on her Twitter page.
“Rick Perry, I don't approve of your ignorant bigoted message! In fact I’m becoming an American citizen so I can vote against people like you!” Kelly Osbourne tweeted.
“In his latest ad, Rick Perry is wearing the same jacket Heath Ledger wore in "Brokeback Mountain" because God has a great sense of humor,” Rex Huppke posted on his Twitter account.
“On behalf of Texas, I'd just like to apologize for Rick Perry,” TheBloggess wrote on Twitter.
